Company:   Separation Systems Consultants, Inc. (SSCI) is a multi-disciplinary environmental, engineering, and construction consulting firm located in the Clear Lake area of Houston, Texas for over 35 years.  SSCI is a woman-owned, small business enterprise with competitive benefits.  SSCI’s clientele is primarily comprised of commercial, light industrial, and public sector schools, universities, and municipalities in the Greater Houston area.  SSCI is a Texas Licensed Professional Geoscience and Professional Engineering firm with licensing as a Leaking Petroleum Storage Tank (LPST) Corrective Action Specialist and a UST Contractor and trainer in Texas and Louisiana.

The Engineering Department is seeking entry level engineering, construction, or remediation technician.  Part-time and full-time candidates will be considered.  Successful individuals will provide hands-on field services, project management, technical writing, and graphic design.  Full time, salary positions will be eligible for SSCI’s 401K and benefit and leave package.  Anticipated salary range:  $25,000 to $45,000/year.

Job Description:   The main responsibilities of the position will be providing technical support in the office and the field to the Engineering manager in civil design of utility and stormwater projects and design, removal, and installation of fuel systems, project permitting, and construction oversight.  On a day-to-day basis, you will be expected to report to the Houston office on a timely basis.  This is not a hybrid position.  You will be required to participate in proposal development, reporting, drafting and design, client communication, training, and subcontractor management.  To achieve this, you will be working with a team of engineers (civil, structural, and mechanical), construction supervisors, geologists/geoscientists, environmental/regulatory specialists, and administrative support.  Your work will enable the company to efficiently manage projects, prepare deliverables, and meet construction schedules.  The individual will be required to participate in fieldwork consisting of approximately 50% of the workload.  Travel is a minimal.  Able to lift 25 pounds.

Requirements and Qualifications: Successful candidates will be independent workers with the ability to contribute creative problem solving ideas.  The candidate should have completed an engineering, construction science, hydrology, geoscience or equivalent associate or bachelor’s Degree or technical, trade school.  Students currently enrolled in upper level college or university course work will be considered for an internship.  Degreed individuals with one to three years of experience will be considered.  You will have demonstrated strong skills in time management, financial project management, project organization, and communications.

Desired Capabilities:

  • Autodesk CAD LT experience is preferred.
  • Moderate MS Excel or R experience is required.
  • Moderate MS word or similar word processing program is required.
  • Moderate MS Outlook experience is required.
  • Clean driving record
  • Training in engineering standards such as ISO, ASME, ASCE, AASHTO, etc. preferred.
  • Basic experience with LISP, or any relevant programming language preferred
  • Machining, manufacturing, pipefitting experience is not required.
  • Communications and teamwork skills are required
  • Must be authorized to work in U.S., this position is not eligible for Visa sponsorship.
